SailProof waterproof tablets are designed to withstand the harshest marine conditions, but there is a silent enemy that can affect all the devices on board: saltwater exposure. Our tablets are IP67-certified and this rating guarantees protection against liquid ingress, including saltwater. However, environmental exposure without proper care and unforeseen factors can still affect the device despite this certification. The main risks come from prolonged exposure to sea sprays, especially when ports are not fully sealed, and from metallic parts on the outside of the tablet, which may be affected by corrosion. That’s why following some key maintenance tips is essential to keep your device in top condition for as long as possible.

Why Can Salt Damage Your Waterproof Tablet?

Seawater is not only highly corrosive to metals, but it also leaves salt residues on charging ports and buttons, which can affect performance over time.

Tips to Protect Your SailProof Tablet from Saltwater Damage

  1. Rinse with fresh water after every trip: use a cloth dampened with fresh water to wipe down the screen, buttons, and charging port. Avoid submerging the tablet; simply remove salt residues.
  2. Dry your device thoroughly before storing it: the combination of salt and moisture can cause corrosion over time. Make sure your tablet is completely dry before putting it away.
  3. Protect the charging port: always keep the charging port cover closed when not in use. If you’re frequently in a high-salt environment, consider using waterproof charging to prevent moisture from entering the connectors.
  4. Avoid exposure to aggressive liquids: do not expose your tablet to chlorinated water (pools), beverages, or cleaning chemicals, as they may damage the screen coating and rubber seals.

New SailProof Waterproof Charger: Ultimate Protection at Sea

With the intention of continuously improving our products and listening to the recommendations of our customers and brand ambassadors, we have developed a new waterproof charging system to enhance the durability of our tablets in marine environments. This feature is available as an option exclusively on the SP10X and SP08X models.

Features of the New Waterproof Charger

· IP67 waterproof charging port integrated into the tablet (as an option exclusively on X models).
· Sealed connector cable to prevent water intrusion.
· Easy installation to the boat’s electrical system (9-36V).
· Includes a female socket connector to be installed near the tablet’s location (1.5m cable length).

It’s important to make sure the waterproof charging cable is correctly and securely connected. If the charging port is exposed to water without the protective cap in place—or without the cable properly plugged in—any resulting water damage will not be covered by the warranty.

With just a bit of regular care, your SailProof tablet will continue performing at its best for years, even in the toughest marine environments. You can sail with confidence, knowing your equipment is ready for anything.
